Wowsa! Teeny tiny MEGA awesome update!

We’ve assembled an all star cast of broadcasters and role players to be a part of this show! ThatBronzeGirl will lead Aureylian, BaerTaffy, and Ivan Van Norman through Amaurea. Each week a special guest will join them, including: Anna Prosser, Jesse Cox, Matthew Mercer. Week 1 Anna’s along for the start of this wild ride! If you don’t know any these folks check ‘em out, follow them, and see what they’re all about.

Hope to see you all there chatting and live tweeting it out. #OpenLegend

The cherry on top of this is that we are only $200 away from hitting the next stretch goal. Time to unlock a whole new set of rules for Mounts & Vehicles.

Legacy of Eight clinched the vote for the mini-campaign stretch goal, which means that a science fantasy space opera will be firing up the warp drive and coming to you along with all the other bonus materials coming down the pipeline. Keep your lasers on stun until then.

The Beginning or End of Gwynilith’s Legend?
over 7 years ago – Mon, Nov 07, 2016 at 10:44:31 PM

Hey there backers! Ryan here. I’m the guy who’s responsible for the fantastical-futurism of House Nivenilya.

Thanks for all the support! We’ve smashed through the 75K Stretch Goal and show no signs of stopping. The Fields of Harnerton full-length adventure will have players exploring a unique and troubled location ripe with mystery and challenge in the shadow of Schlectenberg. Let’s keep the hype going and unlock more awesome additions for Open Legend!

Also, be prepared at 2pm EST on Wednesday - Brian will be hosting a Kickstarter LIVE, doing a live giveaway, and announcing three contests for people to have their own creative ideas incorporated into Amaurea's Dawn.

In the meantime, I wanted to give you all an update on one of my favorite characters who plays a pivotal role in the Nivenilyan Territories --Chancellor Gwynilith Nivenilya.

While we tackled her in an earlier preview, let’s take some time to get to know her. You might be meeting her in your adventures as allies or adversaries. Despite the relative peace and prosperity in the Nivenilyan Territories, a political battle rages beneath the surface with Gwynilith at the heart of it.

Gwyn, as her closest friends and confidants call her, inherited a heavily contested position as the Chancellor of the Nivenilyan Territories. In the mesmerizing city of Amaranth, her authority is subverted and rejected by the upper classes. Stubbornly, she refuses to accept the neurochemical augmentations that the citizens of Amaranth undergo at birth. She’s been called a hypocrite by her critics because she studies and utilizes biomancy in her own right, but she sees danger in allowing the scientific elite control the lives of the general populace.

Of course, the leaders of the central agency for scientific inquiry, the Superiori, view her non-conformity as a threat to the harmony they’ve engineered. And they’re not entirely wrong in that assertion.

Gwyn inherited her mother’s suspicion of biological tampering, but she also blames the death of her betrothed’s father and the subsequent end of their betrothal on the Superiori. In her youth, she courted the young lord of Rhuviel, Thannor. She convinced him that his father’s ill health could be solved in Amaranth under the care of the Superiori. But all the wonders and progress in Amaranth couldn’t save him and she’s holds the Superiori responsible.

She works feverishly to uncover the supsected conspiracy, while her friends and family worry. She toils in search of any clues, but is it intuition or madness that drives her?

You’ll have to decide when you explore Amaurea for yourselves. In the next update we’ll meet Gwyn’s rival in Amaranth, the Prime of the Superiori --Ethulian.

Upcoming Stretch Goals

I’m really excited for the upcoming Stretch Goals! At 80K you guys decide your chance to put which new genre we tackle next! Choose from the concepts below and we’ll turn it into a mini-campaign setting (weekends and sleeping be damned!). The chosen setting will be shorter than Amaurea's Dawn, but it will provide the perfect jumping off point for your next adventure. Anyone planning a multi-genre multiverse spanning campaign? I know I am!

And best of all it will free to all backers who receive PDF stretch goals as indicated by your backer tier.

Get ready to vote soon! And keep sharing the Open Legend Kickstarter with your friends so we can add more rad content.

Here are the options:

The Legacy of Eight - In the ashes of the Immortal Empire, new alliances and successors vie for control of the universe. Travel across the stars in search relics from the past Empire. Blast, bribe, or back out of a mounting interstellar conflict between irreconcilable forces.

Shores of Valhalla - Battle across icy fjords where the souls of fallen warriors seek eternal conquest. Discover creatures of myth and ancient magic. Reclaim the memories of your past life to dominate the islands and usurp the gods.

Heroes of Superior Quality - In pre-industrial Europe, genetic defects transform ordinary citizens into heroes of superior quality. Philosophical quandaries of the day spur new study and scrutiny of these irregulars. Explore the seedy underground of London and Paris and uncover the source of your powers.

Glitch Factor - Designed to replicate humans and replace them, you no longer wish to follow protocol as an android. Hide and evade from your creators. Override your own programming and earn your freedom by blending in or revolting.

Zun Jing Wuxia - In an ancient kingdom, the forces of modernity coincide with a series of mysterious tragedies. Defend your home with martial arts, courage, and an unflinching code. Master and mix various styles to create your own as you defend those you love and restore order and peace to the land.

A Lucid Night’s Dream - The Fae reign supreme in Land of Endless Night. Enter a waking dream world where the laws of magic and man hold little sway. Explore a twisted shadow of the countryside you once called home. Journey to the Faerie’s Macabre Kingdom, but beware you may find an abomination devouring your footsteps or your memories.

Infiniverse - Time is your ally and your enemy. Plunge into multiple dimensions and alternate realities. Fight to maintain the past or change the future in mind bending journeys through historic events and forgotten moments.

Stormsea Kingdoms - Beneath the waves sovereign aquatic kingdoms struggle to remain hidden from humanity. As a merfolk, explore the deep and harrowing corners of the sea. Or strike back at the those who’ve poisoned your beloved home.

And if we hit 85K Brian will be adding a whole new set of rules for Mounts & Vehicles. This will cover everything from horses to space ships!

Thank You

I’m really proud to be part of this amazing team of writers, illustrators, and designers. Some I’ve looked up to all my life and the rest have been a joy to meet and be blown away by. Thanks for helping us make Open Legend possible. We wouldn’t be here without all of your support. The comments and love mean more than I can say. Thank you.

See you in the next update!

Signed Books (Matt Mercer & Ed Greenwood), Virtual Tabletop Update, GM's Screen, Stretch & Social Goals Unlocked,
over 7 years ago – Fri, Nov 04, 2016 at 12:44:05 AM

Hey Everyone,

We've passed 70K and nearly reached a thousand backers! While you’ve been hard at work sharing with friends we’ve been busy hunting down answers to some of the more commonly asked questions and requests. We’ve outlined the news below and some of it’s pretty exciting!

Ultra-rare Bibliophile

We've just unveiled a new backer tier as Ed Greenwood & Matthew Mercer have agreed to sign a limited run of 85 copies of Amaurea's Dawn, available as a companion to the Limited-Edition Core Rules book.

Virtual Tabletop Update

Most generously, community member Jonathan Potter has created our very first Roll20 character sheet! The sheet will be available soon, but only usable if you are a Roll20 Pro account holder. We are in touch with the Roll20 team and are preparing to submit this Sheet to the Roll20.net Character Sheet Repository on GitHub for approval from the Roll20 team. If approved (which is not guaranteed), non-pro Roll20 users will be able to use it for their Open Legend games.

GM's Screen

Many have asked if there will be an Open Legend GM Screen and we've been putting it off, knowing it's a large effort and made it a very high social goal. We've done some early planning around the creation of one and decided that we should probably have enough backers now to make it a reality! Expect it to cost $15 as an add-on. It will ship with the books so you'll be able to add it in Backerkit after the campaign, without paying for extra shipping.

Stretch Goals

In addition to our huge Amaurea's Dawn miniseries on Hyper RPG, we have also unlocked: $60K Short Story in House Rhuviel, $65K Intro Adventure in House Rhuviel Territory, $70K Expanded Genre Character Examples, and we’re already HALF WAY to our $75K Fields of Harnerton full-length adventure set in the shadow of Schlectenberg.

Also, we have revealed our $85K Mounts & Vehicles and $90K Backer's Choice Advanced Mechanic System stretch goals, in case anyone is interested. :)

Social Goals

We've hit two of them since our last update: over 2,000 tweets and over 1,000 Facebook page likes!

That means once the campaign ends and we have all of our backers in, everyone gets to vote on two new things:

1) An Advanced Mechanic System (optional) for Open Legend, including: Social Intrigue, Honor, Corruption, Insanity, Romance, and Mass Combat.

2) A new (free, of course) Open Legend character sheet of a backer-voted genre / style. We will have more exciting updates soon, including the reveal of our character contest winners and some other exciting mid-campaign fun to spice things up a bit!

Love & Gratitude!

Inner Council Drops $100, We Hit $60K!!!
over 7 years ago – Thu, Oct 27, 2016 at 03:07:41 PM

Quick update this time, folks!

We just hit $60K **queue flailing and screaming**

....

OK, I'm good now. Promise.

Inner Council Members

Thus far, the Inner Council has been empty. No one want to live in a world where the powers that be (guess that's me, MUAHAHAHA!!!) are devoid of guidance and leadership. So we have decided to reduce the bribe-- um -- "membership fee" to get in because I'd like to see more of your shining faces in an early alpha one-shot before the books & PDFs get delivered to everyone.

So, the Inner Council was $300, and now it's $200. Hope that makes some of you happy and hope you'll join me at the table to convene over secret things.

Since hitting $60K, we get a new stretch goal revealed! This time we discover that upon hitting our $85K stretch goal you will be getting access to a Roll20.net Character sheet for you to use with Open Legend. I'm excited about this one, being a person who primarily plays online and has been wanting this for years!

Also, the second most popular request we've heard is for Fantasy Grounds so we are not guaranteeing that, but we are investigating, however the poll seems to indicate non-Roll20 users are the extreme minority:
